About
Always OpenDavit And Tariel Kobidze`s Marani (family wine-cellar) located in the west part of Georgia-the village of Erketi, which is in the east part of the Guria region-in the very beautiful valley of the river Supsa.
Guria has been famous for variety of vine species and high-quality wines distinguished by gustatory qualities since the ancient times. Based on the studies performed 80-100 years ago in Guria it has been revealed that up to 60 local vine species had been grown mainly on high places, and today, only 45 species are found and restored. We found old and neglected vine spices and planted new vineyards, in our collection vineyard up to 20 old best local species of Guria are grown.
Our vineyards and marani are 180 meters above sea level, the soil is clay and sandy. Our vineyards are planted at different times - the 25-year-old vineyard is mine, 50-year-old is my father’s, and a few vine that are 150 years old are left by our ancestors. 70% of our vineyards are occupied by Chkhaveri and 30% by different Gurian varieties, such as: Aladasturi, Jani, Skhilatobani, Sakmiela, Kamuri, Mtevandidi, Atinauri, Badagi, Mterdispekha, Samarkhi, Klarjuli ......
Love to vine and respect to the traditions, the experience and skills collected through centuries made us to give birth to our family wine industry. The experience accumulated by our ancestors and the Georgian traditional method of winemaking are passed down from generation to generation, and so it is in our family, and that is why we call the wine made from vines planted by our ancestors 150 years ago Ancestor’s wine. It was not easy, of course respect for traditions, love of vines and wine and Purposeful work has given us results, today we already produce 7 types of wine:
1. Chkhaveri Petki - white-dry
2. Chkhaveri - Red-dry
3. Jani Skhilatobani - Red-dry
4. Aladasturi - Red-dry
5. Sakmiela-Kamuri - amber-dry
6. Tsolikauri - amber-dry
7. Chkhaveri rose (Ancestor’s wine)
