About

Shavnabada Monastery Winery continues Georgia's centuries-old winemaking tradition. The monastery's wines are crafted by the monks using ancient Georgian winemaking methods, with great care and dedication. The grapes are pressed in a traditional wooden wine press, after which the wine undergoes natural fermentation and is aged in qvevri—large clay vessels buried underground. Once matured, the wine is bottled, preserving the unique character of traditional Georgian winemaking. Shavnabada Monastery Winery offers visitors the opportunity to discover the centuries-old history of Georgian wine, learn about the traditional qvevri winemaking process, and taste wines lovingly and faithfully crafted by the monastery's monks.
